Before our Gender Reveal Party, I had dozens of fancy, frilly, over-the-top nursery ideas for our precious little bundle of pink… that is until that little bundle turned out to be BLUE.
A boy? Me? What will I do with a little boy? All I know is how to be girly- hair, makeup, decorating, glitter + glue! Boys aren’t interested in those things. Nor do little boys come with an abundance of adorable clothing, accessories or, most importantly to me,… NURSERY DECOR. Ugh!
I cringed at the idea of using anything ‘baby blue’ (even though hubs is a diehard TarHeels fanatic). I didn’t want cartoon characters of any kind. I didn’t want your run of the mill sporting theme (although, again, would be totally appropriate considering his Daddy’s main love). I didn’t want anything ‘typical’. Ok, so I obviously knew what I didn’t want. Figuring out what I did would prove a little more difficult.
The room was already freshly painted a beautiful shade of gray (as is our entire home- 50 shades of it!) while it was still my craft room. I decided to keep the gray and add two simple colors that I thought would easily grow with him. Navy is one of my favorite home decor palettes and I’d been dying to use it somewhere. Along with an added milky white accent color, I had my color scheme.
I decided against a defined theme so that we wouldn’t have to redo his room all over again in a few years. Instead I just incorporated the color scheme, matching metals and his initial throughout for a cohesive look.
